What Causes Headaches?

Headaches are a multifaceted pain condition with causes that vary greatly. Some headaches stem from chemical imbalances, some can be the result of muscular or structural alignment issues, others can be the result of another underline issue within the body. Headaches fall into two general classifications, “Primary” and “Secondary”.

Primary headaches result from chemical imbalances in the brain, muscles, nerves, or blood vessels within the head and neck. Some of the more common Primary Headaches are Cluster headaches, Migraines, Migraines with auras, and Tension headaches; however, there are many more.

Secondary headaches are the symptom of an underline problem. There are numerous conditions and diseases that cause secondary headaches. Some of the more common causes of secondary headaches are sinus infections, brain tumors or aneurysms, concussions, ear infections, glaucoma, hypertension, toxoplasmosis…

How Do We Treat Headaches?

Headaches can be debilitating whether they are primary or secondary. Depending on the type and cause of the headache, there are numerous Albuquerque headache treatments that can be offered at our clinic to help patients find relief. Some headaches, especially primary headaches require targeting the chemicals within the body that are causing the headache itself, this can be done through diet, supplements, medications or sometimes a more involved treatment plan. Some headaches can be controlled using botox to paralyze the muscle responsible for causing the headache. In addition to our Albuquerque botox for migraines, other types, such as tension headaches, can be addressed through structural correction. A plan incorporating joint alignment, stretching, and strengthening might be an option and include referrals for massage, chiropractic, and physical therapy as appropriate. There are sometimes cases where it is necessary to collaborate with team practitioners in different specialties for Albuquerque headache treatments. This is something that we are happy to take the time to do in order to ensure continuity of care. With years of experience we feel confident we will be able to help with our Albuquerque headache treatments. In the rare instance where we cannot, we can certainly point you in the direction of someone who can.
